Maria Corina Machado and Benjamin Netanyahu - "I promise one day, we'll have a close relationship between Venezuela and Israel. That will be part of our support to the State of Israel,”
The Nobel Peace Prize, which once symbolized hope, justice, and reconciliation among peoples, has lost much of its moral credibility. Awarding this prize to those who support or justify war crimes, colonial occupations, and contemporary genocides is an affront to the spirit with which it was created.
The recent nomination—and media promotion—of figures such as María Corina Machado, an outspoken defender of Zionism and the political apparatus that perpetrates the massacre against the Palestinian people, is an example of the ethical vacuum suffered by the Nobel Committee. Anyone who applauds the oppression and extermination of a nation cannot speak of “peace” without profaning the word itself.
The silence of the major powers in the face of the genocide in Gaza, coupled with the opportunism of politicians who use the Palestinian cause as an instrument of convenience, demonstrates that the Nobel Peace Prize no longer rewards moral courage, but geopolitical obedience. It has become a trophy of the system that perpetuates injustice, not a recognition of those who fight it.
While Palestinian children die under the ruins and hospitals become cemeteries, the world watches as those who support the horror are honored. The true Nobel Peace Prize today belongs to the people who resist, to the doctors who save lives without distinction, to the mothers who do not give up, to those who, despite the pain, continue to defend human dignity.
UPAL reaffirms that there can be no peace without justice, nor reconciliation without truth. The lost prestige of the Nobel Prize can only be recovered when it once again rewards those who fight for life and not those who justify it in the name of politics or power.
