After a year of reporting in Brazil, we are announcing the closure of our operations in the country. This decision does not represent a retreat, but rather a strategic repositioning in response to the challenges faced by independent journalism—challenges that include the restriction of press freedom, limited access to important information, and a growing climate of hostility against voices committed to denouncing injustices.
During this year in Brazil, the Razan Al-Najjar News Portal worked to document frequently marginalized realities: state violence, human rights violations, forced displacement, and the global mechanisms that perpetuate inequality. Our newsroom remained steadfast in its duty to confront narratives that silence the oppressed and amplify the testimonies of those who resist.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our readers, partners, and collaborators in Brazil—especially those who supported independent media even during times of risk and pressure. Your solidarity strengthened our work and reaffirmed the power of journalism that refuses to look away. As part of our restructuring, the Razan Al-Najjar News Portal will now operate through two international editorial centers:
- Editorial Office in Pakistan, coordinated by Gilliam Nauman Iqbal
- Editorial Office in Indonesia, coordinated by Mohammed Hassan Abdullah
These centers will lead our global coverage and ensure that our journalism remains bold, uncompromising, and deeply rooted in the pursuit of truth.
Our closure in Brazil does not mean the end of our commitment to the region. On the contrary: it reinforces our determination to continue monitoring, exposing, and challenging systems of oppression – wherever they manifest themselves. From Pakistan and Indonesia, we will strengthen our global perspective and expand our capacity to confront the forces that attempt to silence journalists and communities fighting for justice.
To Brazil, we say: thank you for the year of partnership, for every voice that trusted us, and for every story that demanded to be told. Our work continues and our commitment remains unwavering.
