Deputy United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Morgan Ortagus casts a veto as members of the U.N. Security Council vote on a draft resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, at U.N. headquarters in New York City, U.S., September 18, 2025.
The UN General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly to grant Palestine the right to participate in its sessions, even in the face of the well-known and shameful veto attempt by the United States. Once again, the world demonstrates that the Palestinian cause is not marginal or forgotten: it is the cause of universal justice.
With an overwhelming majority of countries, the UN has sent a clear message: Palestine exists, resists, and has a voice, even though Washington attempts to silence it with its veto, complicit in genocide. The image is clear: a single isolated country facing the dignity of dozens of nations that refuse to accept that the Palestinian people continue to be invisible on the international stage.
This vote also reveals the moral crisis of the UN. While the Security Council remains paralyzed by the abuse of the veto, the General Assembly reflects the true will of the people. It is not a definitive victory, but it is a symbolic and political step of enormous value: Palestine cannot be erased from history.
The challenge now is to ensure that this voice does not remain symbolic. Participation must translate into binding decisions, sanctions against the occupier, and full recognition of the Palestinian State. Words of support are no longer enough; action is required.
The Palestinian people have demonstrated that, despite the walls, bombs, and vetoes, their existence is non-negotiable. The September 22 vote will be remembered as the day Palestine spoke at the UN, and the world listened.
