Donald Trump and Nicolás Maduro, as questions grow over Washington’s role in shaping political outcomes in Venezuela.” — Al Jazeera
In international politics, nothing happens by chance, much less when it comes to the United States, Israel, and the global tensions they both generate. Donald Trump’s recent insistence on placing Venezuela at the center of the continental debate cannot be interpreted in isolation from a larger fact: the growing global rejection of the crimes of the Zionist regime in Palestine.
Today, even within American society itself, voices are emerging that recognize the brutality of the occupation and the moral collapse that comes with supporting Israel unconditionally. And just when the massacres in Jenin, Gaza, and the occupied West Bank become impossible to cover up, the threats, the inflammatory rhetoric, and the old scripts about “Latin American dictatorships” reappear. The distraction strategy is clear.
Trump—like much of the American establishment—knows that the Israeli narrative has lost credibility, that the world is witnessing the occupier’s crimes in real time, and that the Zionist propaganda machine is crumbling. In this context, focusing attention on Venezuela is nothing more than a desperate attempt to reduce political and media pressure on Israel.
UPAL reaffirms its absolute rejection of U.S. interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs. History demonstrates that Washington has never hesitated to destabilize other countries when it comes to protecting its interests. Is this truly a concern for “democracy”? Or is it yet another maneuver to gain access to Venezuela’s vast natural resources, as it has done throughout its history in Latin America, the Middle East, and other regions of the world?
This maneuver also benefits other actors: the Zionist regime, which seeks allies to improve its image; and a completely ineffective Palestinian National Authority, incapable of protecting its people, effective only in coordinating security with the occupier while denying passports to anyone who doesn’t toe the line of its interests. Can an entity that doesn’t defend those it claims to represent be called an authority?
The United States may try to divert attention, but Palestine remains at the heart of the story. No geopolitical maneuver can obscure the truth: Israel is a colonial project sustained by violence, and Palestinian liberation is a legitimate and inalienable right.
UPAL insists: no distraction—be it Venezuela or any other country—will erase the responsibility of Zionism or its accomplices. Today more than ever, the Palestinian diaspora and the peoples of the world must keep their eyes fixed on what truly matters: the struggle of a people for their land, their dignity, and their future.
A single secular, democratic, and inclusive state is the only just solution.
