International People’s Tribunal for Palestine Undertakes Final Preparations to Convene in Barcelona
BARCELONA, SPAIN – The Right to Resist: International People’s Tribunal for Palestine will convene November 22 and 23 in Barcelona. Organizers of the Tribunal are engaged in their final preparations for this event that will put the unique focus on the crime of ecocide, while complementing similar international Tribunals that have exposed the genocidal crimes of Israel and its backers. It also follows continuous mass mobilizations in Barcelona and around the globe as the people of the world continue to express their rage at the many ceasefire violations and continued blocking of aid on the behalf of Israeli forces.
The significance of this People’s Tribunal happening in Barcelona is affirmed by the growing number of local activists and organizations that have pledged their support. “In a city known for its fierce defense of freedom, this popular tribunal in Barcelona serves a vital purpose: to break the wall of silence and hold power to account for the atrocities in Gaza,” said Saif Abukeshek of the Global Movement to Gaza, one of the leading convenors of the Global Sumud Flotilla. “It is a necessary act of global conscience.”
The Global Movement to Gaza is one of the over 100 endorsing organizations who have signed their support for the International People’s Tribunal for Palestine. These endorsing organizations come from every continent and include a growing number of organizations based in Barcelona itself. One of these organizations in Barcelona is Juristas for Palestine who said, “The International People’s Tribunal for Palestine represents not only a call for justice in the legal sense. It is an affirmation that true justice comes from the people, and that only through grassroots mobilization and international solidarity can genuine accountability be met.”
As news spreads of the Tribunal on the streets, in community meetings, and via many activist networks in Barcelona, the witnesses, prosecutors, and other key members of the Tribunal’s proceedings prepare to make their case through an indictment that will be presented to a team of international jurors. This group of people will include witnesses who will testify on the horrifying scale of Israel’s war against the Palestinian people, along with key experts in the fields of genocide, ecocide, food, and other topics related to the Tribunal’s indictment.
