HAMAS on Friday responded to the 20-point Gaza peace plan
The news circulating around the world today is clear: Hamas has responded to Donald Trump’s plan by accepting in principle an immediate ceasefire and the release of the Israeli hostages. However, this acceptance is not absolute, but rather conditional on what should be obvious in any fair negotiation: Israel’s total withdrawal from Gaza, the massive and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, and the opening of a serious political process that guarantees the Palestinian people’s right to decide their own future.
This “conditional yes” is, in reality, an affirmation of dignity. Hamas has made it clear that the Gaza Strip cannot become a territory administered by foreign powers, much less under international tutelage designed in imperial offices. What he proposes is that Gaza be placed in the hands of an independent Palestinian authority, with Arab and Islamic support—that is, in the hands of those who feel strongly about the Palestinian cause and not in the hands of those who have legitimized the occupation for decades.
Trump, in his characteristic style of imposition and blackmail, has issued an ultimatum until Sunday, threatening an “unprecedented” offensive if his proposal is not accepted. This is the same colonial logic that for 77 years has attempted to break the Palestinian people’s will to resist: brute force as a substitute for justice.
But this shift also opens a glimmer of hope: if the world seriously listens to the proposed conditions, we could move toward a real ceasefire, one that will not be a mere interlude for new massacres, but the beginning of a path toward Palestinian freedom.
UPAL reiterates: the future of Gaza, the West Bank, and all of Palestine will not be decided in Washington or Tel Aviv, but by the will of its people and by international solidarity. No imperial blackmail can erase the essential truth: Palestine will be free.
