The Palestinian Union of Latin America expresses its firmest and fraternal support for the Santa Catarina Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People Khader Othman, the Palestinian Institute of Public Diplomacy (PIPD), and all solidarity organizations in Brazil for organizing the International Seminar “The Struggle of Palestinian Political Prisoners for Freedom,” which will take place on November 19, 2025, at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).
This gathering, which will feature the Palestinian-French lawyer Salah Al Hammouri — former political prisoner and human rights defender with the organization Addameer — stands as an act of immense dignity and commitment to truth, justice, and the freedom of the Palestinian people. Salah represents the living voice of thousands of Palestinian men and women who have suffered in prisons and exile under Israeli occupation, and whose resistance remains a moral beacon for new generations.
UPAL extends a special greeting to comrade Shahla Othman, president of the Santa Catarina Committee and a member of our Union, for her tireless work in defense of the Palestinian cause in Brazil and for keeping alive the flame of internationalist solidarity in Latin America.
We also acknowledge the valuable contribution of all the organizations supporting this event — the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST), the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Santa Catarina (IFSC), the World March of Women, the Women’s Movement for Peace in Palestine, and the UFSC Press — demonstrating that the struggle for Palestine is inseparable from the universal struggle for human rights and the freedom of peoples.
From Latin America, we reaffirm our commitment to Palestinian political prisoners, to their families, and to the resistance of an entire people who, despite repression and exile, do not renounce their inalienable right to live freely in their homeland.
