The funeral of the martyred Hezbollah leader, Hashem Safieddine, is held as his body is transferred to its final resting place in his hometown of Deir Qanoun al-Nahr, in southern Lebanon, on February 24, 2025.
Martyr Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, former secretary general of Hezbollah, was laid to rest as mourners from around the world converged on his hometown in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah’s residency movement announced that Safieddine, who prior to his martyrdom, had been head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, will be buried in his hometown of Deir Qanoun al-Naher in southern Lebanon on Monday.
In a speech to the mourners, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, reaffirmed the support of the nation and the Iranian government for the Lebanese people and the resistance.
Sheikh Mohammad Hassan Akhtari has vowed that Iran will continue to stand with the Lebanese people in the face of the Israeli regime.
Protesters gathered at a stadium in the Lebanese capital on Sunday for the funeral ceremony for Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Safieddinel.
An estimated 1.4 million people, including delegations from nearly 70 countries, took part in the funeral procession.
Israel assassinated Nasrallah on September 27, 2024, and Safieddine on October 3 of the same year.
Regional resistance groups say the “cowardly assassination of Israel” of Hezbollah leaders has only strengthened their resolve to continue their path in Palestine, Lebanon and beyond.
In separate remarks on Sunday, Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem hailed Nasrallah for “reviving the Palestinian cause,” saying the Lebanese resistance group “will preserve that trust and continue to walk that path.”
Hamas also recalled “the heroic and honorable positions of the martyr Nasrallah, his firm and principled adoption of the Palestinian cause, and his insistence on forming a front of support with our people in the Gaza Strip.”
